Your Dynamics Estate Is More Fragile Than It Looks

A Ryse ERP Assessment gives you a clear, evidence-based picture of what you actually have, and what to do about it.

ERP Platforms Age in Ways That Are Hard to See From Inside the Organization

Customizations accumulate without documentation. Integrations multiply without a map. Institutional knowledge concentrates in two or three people. Operating costs creep upward without anyone being able to explain exactly why.

The system works, until it doesn't. And by the time symptoms surface, the underlying causes have usually been compounding for a long time.

You may recognize some of these:

  • Users complain about slowness that IT can’t reproduce or isolate
  • Batch jobs are approaching or exceeding their nightly windows
  • A migration decision is coming but no one has a clear picture of what it would actually cost
  • A key person just left, and a lot of institutional knowledge left with them
  • Your AX 2012 environment is past end-of-support and you’re still running it
  • Leadership needs a board-ready answer on platform direction and the data doesn’t exist yet

The pattern is the same regardless of platform:

Most organizations don’t have a current, comprehensive, honest picture of what their Dynamics estate actually looks like. Decisions about the platform get made with incomplete information.

That’s exactly what a Ryse assessment fixes.

Clarity Before Commitment. Evidence Before Investment.

A Ryse ERP Assessment is a structured, evidence-based diagnostic of your Dynamics environment. We go in with direct access (not questionnaires), instrument the environment, collect telemetry, run automated code and metadata analysis, and conduct structured stakeholder interviews. Then we deliver a picture of what you actually have.

Every issue we surface follows the same three-step pattern:

Step 1

Identify the root cause

Most symptoms in a Dynamics environment (slow forms, long batch runs, integration timeouts) are effects, not causes. We trace each one to its source before recommending action.

Step 2

Remediate the
accumulated impact

Once the cause is identified, we define the fix: a query rewrite, a batch reconfiguration, a code refactor, a data cleanup. Where feasible, we validate the fix before we leave.

Step 3

Prevent recurrence

Every fix is paired with a monitoring or governance mechanism so the issue doesn’t come back. Without this step, remediation is temporary.

Two Assessments. One Methodology. Scoped to What You Need.

We offer two distinct engagement models depending on where you are and what you need answered.

ERP Landscape Assessment

Comprehensive | ~12 Weeks

The full-estate diagnostic. Designed for organizations that need a complete, evidence-based picture of their Dynamics environment before making a major decision.

Best for:

  • Legacy AX organizations evaluating stay vs. migrate vs. delay
  • D365 organizations planning the next phase of investment
  • Post-go-live teams needing a baseline of what was delivered
  • PE sponsors and IT leaders inheriting an unfamiliar estate
  • Leadership needing a board-ready financial model

D365 Performance Optimization

Targeted | 2–4 Weeks

A focused diagnostic for organizations already on D365 Finance & Operations who are experiencing performance problems they can’t isolate or resolve with internal resources.

Best for:

  • Post-go-live performance degradation as volume has grown
  • Batch jobs approaching or exceeding nightly windows
  • Unexplained slowness IT can’t reproduce from the application layer
  • Integration bottlenecks causing backlogs or timeouts
  • Pre-upgrade or pre-expansion readiness checks

What You Walk Away With

The assessment is designed to stand on its own as a strategic asset, not a slide deck full of best-practice recommendations you already know. Many clients tell us the documentation alone would have justified the engagement.

Deliverable

What It Gives You

Executive Readout Deck
30–50 slides covering current state, key findings, recommended actions, and roadmap, ready for leadership and the board.
Full Assessment Report
70–130 pages of quantified findings, root-cause analysis, and prioritized recommendations drawn directly from your environment.
RAID Log & Cost-Value Matrix
Every identified risk, action, issue, and decision sized by cost and value, with named quick wins and explicit non-recommendations.
Integration Inventory
A complete map of inbound and outbound integrations, transports, owners, and error rates, ready to hand to any future implementation partner.
Customization Inventory
Every customization catalogued, classified, and (where a migration is in scope) tagged for carry-forward, retirement, or rebuild.
TCO Workbook (where applicable)
A multi-year, multi-scenario cost model with adjustable inputs and sensitivity analysis. Every assumption is rationalized and challengeable.
Stabilization & Optimization Roadmap
A multi-phase plan with sequencing, ownership, and dependency mapping, so the work gets done in the right order.

What Our Assessments Have Uncovered

These numbers come from real engagements. The patterns repeat regardless of company size.

50K+

Best practice violations found in a single codebase

60%

Of all AIF errors traced to a single mapping fix

$1.95M

Cost premium of delaying a D365 migration by 3 years

600GB

Recoverable storage identified without changing a line of code

In one engagement, a single transaction line table carried 10 unused indexes totaling 45 GB. In another, a nightly financial processing chain documented at 3 hours was actually running 4.5, bleeding into the SQL maintenance window every night. Neither was visible from inside the organization.

Why Ryse?

Direct evidence. Not questionnaires.

We instrument the environment, collect workload telemetry, run automated code and metadata analysis, and conduct structured stakeholder interviews. We don’t rely on what the team thinks is happening. We read what is actually happening.

Institutional knowledge that outlasts individuals

The documentation produced by this engagement becomes a living reference your team, your leadership, and any future partners can draw from. When a key person leaves, the knowledge stays.

Findings that trace to root causes

Every issue is traced through a consistent three-step chain: root cause, remediation, prevention. You don’t get a list of problems without answers.

A baseline for measuring progress

You cannot demonstrate improvement without a starting point. The assessment gives you a quantified snapshot that makes future ROI conversations concrete rather than abstract.

Quick wins that pay for the engagement

Nearly every assessment we run surfaces operational improvements that can be addressed immediately and produce measurable savings. The remediation backlog is large, but largely quick win.

Continuity from diagnosis to action

By the time we deliver findings, our team knows your environment, your processes, your data, and the people who run it. If you want us to carry the work forward, there’s no re-discovery period, and no knowledge transfer gap.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Dynamics 365 assessment?

A Dynamics 365 assessment is a structured, evidence-based diagnostic of your D365 Finance & Operations or legacy Dynamics AX environment. It inventories your customizations, integrations, data volumes, and infrastructure; identifies where the platform is healthy and where it is fragile; and produces a prioritized action plan so your team knows exactly what to do next.

How long does a D365 assessment take?

It depends on scope. Our ERP Landscape Assessment (the comprehensive option) runs approximately 12 weeks from kickoff to final readout. Our D365 Performance Optimization Assessment is a more targeted engagement that runs 2–4 weeks.

Is an assessment worth it if we’re already planning to migrate?

Yes, often more so. A migration decision made without a clear picture of the current estate is a migration likely to be mispriced, mis-scoped, and miss critical dependencies. Our assessments produce the integration inventory, customization inventory, and architectural documentation that your implementation partner will need to scope accurately. Organizations that skip this step often discover the gaps during the migration itself, at a much higher cost.

We’re still on AX 2012. Is it too late for an assessment?

No. Many of our clients are still running AX 2012, some years past Microsoft’s January 2023 end-of-support date. An assessment is valuable regardless of where you are in the decision cycle. If you haven’t chosen a direction, it gives you the evidence to make that choice. If you have, it gives you the stable foundation you need to survive until cutover.

What makes Ryse different from other ERP consultants?

We do not rely on questionnaires or assumptions. We go in with direct environment access, instrument the platform, collect real telemetry, and let the evidence drive the findings. Every issue we surface is traced to its root cause before we recommend action, and every recommendation is paired with a mechanism to prevent recurrence. We are a Boston consultancy specializing in Microsoft Dynamics AX and D365 Finance & Operations, and our assessments are designed to stand on their own as strategic deliverables.

Do you help with remediation after the assessment?

Yes. For clients who want Ryse to execute on the findings, we offer implementation support that builds directly on the diagnostic. The team that identified the issues is the team best positioned to resolve them, with no re-discovery period and no knowledge transfer gap.
